CROSS COUNTRY SKIINGVasaloppet 1999

Article of year 2000.

There was not a dry eye to be seen anywhere when the lad from Mora, Staffan Larsson, appeared in the home-straight all alone and in majestic style, on his way to win the 1999 Nordic cross-country skiing classic, the "Vasaloppet" in Mora. At last he had fulfilled his childhood dream after many years of being an "also ran". His previous placings were 5th, 3rd, 7th and 2nd, and now 1st - that is persistence for you. In the Swedish Championships he has won gold in the relay and silver in the 50km race. Staffan competes for Mora Skiing Club, which has a membership of 1400. There are around 200 members who are under 18 years of age and about 30 members are elite class skiers at junior and senior level. Prior to the forthcoming season the club has formed a cross-country skiing team called the "Vasa Ski Team", and they are training hard for the next skiing world cup.
Staffan’s goals for the next season (the year 2000) are to take a medal in the World Cup and to defend his victory in the "Vasaloppet". Good Luck!
