When I mix my Vitargo drink, it forms a gel in the bottom of the bottle. Am I doing something wrong?
Vitargo® is a hugh carbohydrate molecule, when compared to ordinary carbs used in sports drinks. It is a STARCH, and therefor a little more difficult to dissolve.
Prepare like this:
First, fill the bottle to 1/3 with water, then add the powder and shake vigorously for at least 1 minute. Fill up with water.
If it is the first time you use Vitargo, or if you will pour the sports drink in a Camel back, try to whisk the powder down in a bowl of water. Then you notice the difference between Vitargo and other carbs - Vitargo is a little like a glue on the whisk. Stir for at least 2 minutes, then the powder is totaly dissolved.
Can I use Vitargo if I suffer from celiaki(gluten intolerance)?
Vitargo is a starch manufactured from BARLEY amylopectin starch.
Though, it is very low content of gluten, under 200ppm, and this is called GLUTEN FREE by defenition.
Pls, look at this Certificate from the manufacturer.
Certificate gluten
What is the Glycemic Index GI of Vitargo?
Many people ask the glycemic Index of carbs in common.
A sports drink should have a high glycemic index, giving a rapid and easy accessible energy to the blood stream and this is the case of Vitargo. No exact value is known at the moment, but insulin and blood glucose values indicates the same GI as for maltodextrine(glucose polymer) ~137.
